October 23, 2024 – NASA and SpaceX have successfully completed the undocking of the SpaceX Crew-8 mission from the International Space Station (ISS), marking the end of a productive seven-month scientific mission. The undocking occurred at 5:05 p.m. EDT, with the crew set to splash down off the coast of Florida in the early hours of Friday morning.
The Crew-8 team, comprising NASA astronauts Matthew Dominick, Michael Barratt, and Jeanette Epps, along with Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin, has conducted a range of vital research during their time aboard the ISS. Their return will bring back important time-sensitive scientific findings to Earth.
Initially delayed due to adverse weather conditions, including the impact of Hurricane Milton, the mission managers have now confirmed that the splashdown is scheduled for approximately 3:29 a.m. EDT on Friday, October 25. NASA will provide live coverage of the return operations, including the deorbit burn and splashdown, on NASA+ and other platforms.
The Crew-8 mission highlights the ongoing successful collaboration between NASA and SpaceX, showcasing their combined efforts to advance human spaceflight and scientific research.
